This mother giraffe kindly struck a pose for me during my very first safari. How gracious of her! Since stepping onto African soil (sand?) there have been many adventures. Everything is different here. God’s creativity astounds me. After spending nearly four weeks in Kenya, I am finally settled in Windhoek, Namibia, where I expect to spend the next couple of years. I begin working with Abigail, director of Family Hope Services (FHS), located just outside Windhoek in Katutura, on Monday, November 10. FHS is a center that supports OVCs (orphans and vulnerable children) in the area. Some are orphans; some are poverty-stricken; most, if not all, are affected in some way by HIV/AIDS.
This past week as I contemplated beginning work I was immediately overwhelmed by the enormity of the task and my own inadequacies. God, in His faithfulness, led me once again to Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Chris Tiegreen writes in The One Year Walk With God, “Consider your inadequacy dead and buried along with the rest of you. Jesus is our sufficiency. He is our life.” My thoughts of indadequacy are not from the Father. My identity is in Jesus Christ himself. What an awesome reality…what amazing grace!
As this is my first attempt ever at blogging I will do my best to keep my site up to date. But, if I am MIA, I assure you it is temporary!
